I’ve lived in Las Vegas for 25 years. From early on I’ve been fascinated with casinos and gaming. I even worked in the casinos for 10 years as a craps (dice) dealer.

I learned early on that the negative expectation games (craps, roulette, baccarat, etc.) could not be beat in the long run. However, I knew that Blackjack, Poker, Video Poker and the Race/Sports books COULD be beat. That the professional gamblers, those that made their sole living from the casinos, were either 21/poker/video players or race/sports bettors.

In fact I’m very good friends with a poker player who has made his living from the poker table for over four decades. I knew from my conversations with him that I didn’t have what it takes to go up against other poker players. But I also knew that with research and knowledge I could become a sports bettor, even though I’ve never considered myself a sports fan. I have no real allegiance to any particular team, rarely look at the sports section of the newspaper and honestly couldn’t tell you who won the Heisman trophy, was Rookie of the Year or the league’s leading scorer.

So my journey began last September around the start of football season. I spent countless hours online reading blogs and following forum threads. I read book after book. I looked at statistics trying to make sense of what the numbers meant. A friend manages a sports book on the strip, I honestly think I drove him crazy with my endless questions and scenarios. All the while I was formulating my plan and gathering my starting bankroll.

I made “mind bets” on paper… almost happy when my mind bet lost and even a little annoyed when it won because there was no money involved. I followed probably twenty or so handicappers picks and logged their results.

On December 17th 2009 with an intact bankroll and a plan I placed my first sports bet down the street at Arizona Charlies Hotel & Casino. I had Portland minus 2 over the Phoenix Suns. The Trailblazers won the game 105 to 102. I just sneaked by, but I won.

… and I haven’t looked back.

On just about every day since then I have bet on 3-8 games yet never watch a single one. I only care about the outcome not the team, the city the team represents or the players. In fact my question isn’t “who won?” but rather “did they cover the spread?”.

Based on advice from the Frank Belenger and the Bookie Buster program I broke my initial bankroll into three equal parts and a fourth smaller one. Part one is dedicated to Rich Allen’s Sports Book Professor program where I am playing with twenty-five 4% units.

Part’s two and three are each earmarked for two of the twenty-five systems found in Frank’s Bookie Buster. With the second part of my bankroll I am using fifty 2% units since it is based around a four game “chase” and in the third twenty 5% units. The fourth is the “experimental” part of my bankroll. I use it to make smaller wagers on picks from forum handicappers or when I get that rare hunch.

My plan over the next four years (and twenty seasons of the NFL, NBA, NCAAB, NHL and MLB) is to reach the goal I first set when I started this project last fall. It will require me doubling my starting bankroll eight-and-a-quarter times. I honestly and truly feel that not only can it be done, but it WILL be done.

So how’s it going so far you might be wondering? I’m the first to admit that it could very well be “beginners luck” but after the first full month my bankroll increased by 36.22%. After the second month it was up 81.34% and during the third month I made my first “bankroll-double”. I honestly don’t expect to see these same results every three months but my research conclusively shows that I can expect to slowly, safely and conservatively meet my goal by Christmas Day of 2013 diversely doubling my bankroll two to three times each year.

I can’t say that you will have similar results to mine, yours might be worse or they could be much better. Who knows?

My only question now is…. do you want watch as a spectator on the sideline or come along right beside me as we cross the finish line together?

My encouragement is simply “the water’s warm… jump right on in!”. But I do caution that in the ocean of sports investing you can either swim, wade or drown… the choice is yours.
